Glykophilousa means "the sweetly loving" in Greek, and in Serbian this type is called Umiljenje, Tenderness. The icon shows why: the Christ Child presses his cheek against his Mother, and she holds him close. The best-known wonderworking icon of this type is kept at the Monastery of Philotheou on Mount Athos.
The Theotokos wears a deep red maphorion with stars, and the Child a light robe. Beside them the monograms ΜΡ ΘΥ (Mother of God) and IC XC (Jesus Christ) are written in red. The board is arched, its centre recessed and gilded, and the image sits on a cut-out mounted in the gold field, with a halo in relief.
