Wooden Icon of Saint Hermione the Martyr

Saint Hermione was a daughter of the Apostle Philip, one of the seven deacons, whose daughters, the Acts of the Apostles say, prophesied. She lived in Ephesus, worked as a physician and treated the sick without payment, which is why the Church counts her among the holy unmercenaries. She suffered for Christ in the second century. The faithful pray to her for health and for doctors who heal.

She is shown to the waist, in a blue gown and a red cloak, with a pink veil. In her right hand she holds a medicine spoon, and in her left a box of medicines - the signs of her calling. The inscription Η ΑΓΙΑ ΕΡΜΙΟΝΗ (Saint Hermione) is written in gold. The image is on a cut-out mounted over the wooden board, with a gold halo in relief.
