The Synaxis of the Bodiless Heavenly Powers is the feast of all the angelic orders - nine ranks of bodiless powers who, according to the tradition of the Church, stand ceaselessly before the throne of God and glorify Him. At their head is Archangel Michael. This icon depicts that heavenly host assembled together.
The angels - Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominions, Powers, Authorities, Principalities, Archangels and Angels - are intermediaries between God and men: they carry prayers upward and mercy downward. The feast of the holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel and all the Bodiless Powers is celebrated on November 21 (Aranđelovdan). Before this icon the faithful pray for the protection of the entire heavenly host over their home and family.
