The Presentation of the Lord - the feast of the Meeting - joins two worlds in one scene: the aged Simeon who had waited his entire life, and the newborn Christ whom he receives into his arms. According to tradition, Simeon had waited a very long time for the fulfillment of the promise that he would not die until he had seen the Saviour. That moment in the temple - the meeting of waiting and arrival - still bears the name "Sretenje" (meeting) to this day. The icon shows the scene with the Mother of God, Joseph, the elderly prophetess Anna, and the righteous Simeon receiving the God-child in the temple, alongside the Greek inscription Η ΥΠΑΠΑΝΤΗ (the Presentation). The background is a warm gold, with the architecture of the temple and figures in clear colours.

The Presentation is celebrated on 2 February (15 February by the new calendar) and is one of the Twelve Great Feasts. In Serbian tradition this feast also marks the boundary between winter and spring - and in its spiritual sense it speaks of the meeting of man and God, who comes in silence rather than in thunder.
