The Last Supper (rustic edge)

The Last Supper depicts the final meal that the Lord Jesus Christ shared with His twelve apostles on the eve of His Passion, on Holy Thursday. At the oval table Christ sits at the center, with a halo around His head and His hand raised in blessing, while the apostle John the Theologian leans on His chest. On the table one can see bread, cups and vessels of wine - symbols of the meal at which Christ instituted the Holy Mystery of Communion (the Eucharist). In the background rises architecture with a dome and a red drapery, and at the top of the icon stands the Greek inscription Ο ΜΥΣΤΙΚΟΣ Ο ΔΕΙΠΝΟΣ, which translates as The Last Supper.

Before this icon the faithful pray for unity and peace in the family, for a blessing upon the table and for approaching Holy Communion worthily. Its place is in the holy corner of the home, on the family icon shelf or in the prayer nook, and it looks especially fitting in the dining room as a reminder of Christ's sacrifice and communion. It also makes a worthy gift for a baptism, wedding, patron saint's day (krsna slava) or housewarming, as well as for Holy Thursday, when the church commemorates the institution of this great event.
