The icon of Christ the Bridegroom comes from the services of the first days of Holy Week, when the Church sings of Christ as the Bridegroom who comes at midnight for his bride, the Church. Christ is shown in the hour of his Passion, with the crown of thorns on his head, yet with a calm and dignified face. This is not an icon of triumph but of quiet sacrifice and a love that endures.
We see Christ from the shoulders up, his head gently bowed to one side, on a warm gold background with the red letters IC XC. The icon is framed by a carved wooden arch on a stand, so it stands on its own. Many keep it beside the place of personal prayer or on a bedside table.
