The Pantocrator, the Ruler of All, is the oldest and best-known image of the Lord Jesus Christ: he blesses with his right hand and holds the Gospel in his left. In the cross of the halo stand the letters Ο ΩΝ, "He who is", and beside the head the letters IC XC (Jesus Christ) are written in red. Christ wears a red chiton and a green himation, on a gold background.
The icon is framed by a carved wooden arch joined to a stand, so it stands on its own without hanging on a wall. The roughly carved, darkened edge gives it an old-world look. That makes it well suited to an office desk, a bedside table or a shelf, and as the first icon in a new home.
