After the Last Supper, Christ went with his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane on the Mount of Olives and prayed there alone while the disciples slept. The Gospel records his words: "O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt." That prayer is an image of every human struggle between fear and surrender to the will of God.
