This icon brings together two saints whose lives are spiritually intertwined. On the left stands Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia, a hieromonk from Farasa in Cappadocia, known for his gifts of healing and the power of his prayer; he holds a closed Gospel and wears a priest's epitrachelion over his vestments. On the right is Saint Paisios the Athonite, one of the most beloved modern saints and a monk of Mount Athos; he blesses with his right hand and holds an open scroll in his left. The Greek inscriptions above their heads - ΑΓΙΟΣ ΑΡΣΕΝΙΟΣ (Saint Arsenios) and ΑΓΙΟΣ ΠΑΙΣΙΟΣ (Saint Paisios) - name them both. It was Saint Arsenios who baptized the young Arsenios Eznepidis, the future Elder Paisios, and gave him his own name, which is why the two are so often depicted together.

The faithful pray to Saint Paisios and Saint Arsenios for comfort in hardship, for healing, peace of soul, and help in life's trials. The icon finds its place in the home's icon corner, on a family iconostasis, or in a prayer nook, and it also makes a beautiful gift for a krsna slava (family patron saint's day), a baptism, a name day, or a wedding. Saint Paisios the Athonite is commemorated on July 12, and Saint Arsenios of Cappadocia on November 10. Their shared image recalls the deep bond between teacher and disciple and the strength of the monastic path.
