Saint Matrona of Moscow (Matrona the Blind) is one of the most beloved Russian saints of recent times. According to tradition, she was born blind and spent her whole life in physical darkness, yet she was endowed with the gift of prayer, prophecy, and consolation, through which she counseled and comforted the multitude of people who came to her. On this icon she is shown with her eyes closed, in a white head covering and a dark green mantle, with a prayer rope in her right hand and the open palm of her left hand raised in prayer. The Greek inscription "Η ΟΣΙΑ ΜΑΤΡΩΝΑ Η ΡΩΣΙΔΑ Η ΑΟΜΜΑΤΟΣ" means "Saint Matrona the Russian, the Blind", and it was precisely her blindness that became a sign of inner light. The gold background emphasizes her heavenly peace and holiness.
The faithful pray to Saint Matrona for consolation in hardship, for health and help in illness, for peace in the family, and for support in difficult life decisions. Delivery
