Saint Stylianos (3D Icon)

Saint Stylianos of Paphlagonia was an ascetic who lived in Asia Minor in the sixth or seventh century. Mothers brought him their sick children, he prayed over them, and many were healed. That is why the Orthodox, and the Greeks above all, honour him as the protector of children, and couples waiting for a child turn to him too. The Church keeps his feast on 9 December.

Here he is shown as an old man with a long white beard, in a monastic robe, holding a swaddled infant in his arms. Beneath the child he holds a scroll with the Greek text ΠΑΙΔΩΝ ΦΥΛΑΞ ΠΕΦΥΚΑ ΘΕΟΥ ΤΩ ΔΩΡΩ, which means "By the gift of God I became a guardian of children". The inscription Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΣΤΥΛΙΑΝΟΣ runs across the top.

The old man and the child are printed on a separate cut-out mounted on top of the dark board, so the figure stands out from the background. This is a two-layer 3D icon. The halo and the inscription are in raised gold, and the edge of the board is wavy.
