Saint Sava, the first Archbishop of Serbia and founder of the independent Serbian Orthodox Church, is portrayed on this icon in full episcopal dignity. Born as Rastko Nemanjić, the youngest son of Stefan Nemanja, he gave up a prince's life to become a monk, an educator, and the spiritual father of the Serbian people.
