Saint Petka (Saint Paraskeva) is one of the most beloved women saints among the Orthodox faithful, a nun who devoted her life to prayer, fasting, and helping those in need. On this icon she is shown in a monastic habit of red and brown tones, with a veil over her head, holding a cross in her hand - a sign of faith and of her ascetic path. Her name is inscribed above her figure, СВЕТА ПЕТКА (Saint Petka), by which the faithful know and honour her. Her gentle, serene gaze reflects the inner peace she found by renouncing worldly life. Known as the protector of women, the home, and health, she is one to whom many turn in quiet, personal prayer. The icon is made on an MDF base, with rustically finished, irregular and wavy edges that give it a warm, natural look.
Saint Petka is celebrated on 27 October (Petkovdan), and many Serbian families honour her as their krsna slava (family patron saint). People pray to her for health, peace in the home, and the protection of the family, especially women seeking comfort and strength. The icon sits beautifully in the holy corner of the home, on a shelf, or on a bedroom wall, as well as in the space where the family gathers. It makes a warm and meaningful gift for a krsna slava, a name day, or for someone who bears the name Petka or Paraskeva.
