Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of the city of Myra in Lycia, is one of the most venerated saints of the Orthodox Church and the patron of sailors, travelers, and children. On this icon he is shown as a hierarch in a red (burgundy) vestment draped with a golden omophorion adorned with large crosses. The lower part of the icon depicts a ship under full sail - a reminder of the miracles by which he saved sailors from storms and drowning. The Greek inscription Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΝΙΚΟΛΑΟΣ means "Saint Nicholas" and frames his figure on both sides of the halo. His gentle, composed gaze and long gray beard reflect the mercy and wisdom for which he has been remembered through the centuries.
The faithful pray to Saint Nicholas for protection on journeys, help in times of trouble, peace in the home, and the well-being of their children. Delivery
