Saint Barbara lived at the turn of the fourth century in Heliopolis, the daughter of a wealthy pagan named Dioscorus. Her father shut her in a tower to hide her from the world, and it was there that she came to the Christian faith. When she had a third window cut into the tower, in honour of the Holy Trinity, her father understood that she had become a Christian. He handed her over to the authorities and, after her torture, beheaded her himself. The Church keeps her feast on 17 December, and the faithful pray to her for protection from sudden death without repentance.
Here Barbara stands at full height in white and red robes, a crown on her head and a cross in her right hand. Beside her, on a red cloth, she carries a crowned and haloed head, the sign of her martyrdom. Behind her on the left is the tower with three windows, and at lower right a small scene of her execution. The Greek inscription Η ΑΓΙΑ ΒΑΡΒΑΡΑ runs across the top.
The icon is made in two layers, which is why we call it a 3D icon. The figure, the tower and the landscape are printed on a cut-out that sits on top of the dark board, so from the side you can clearly see the difference in height. The halo and the lettering are in raised gold, and the wavy edge of the board gives it an old-world look.

Delivery

Icons are sent by courier, with proof of delivery. Packaging is twofold - an inner layer with protective foam and an outer cushioning layer for safe transport.
