Saint Arsenije of Srem (Saint Arsenije I) was born in Srem, from which he took his name, and while still a young monk he joined Saint Sava, who took him as his closest associate. When Saint Sava stepped down from the archiepiscopal throne, he chose Arsenije as his successor, who thus became the second archbishop of the Serbian Church. Through his wisdom the site of Pec was chosen, where the Church of the Holy Apostles was built - the foundation of the later Patriarchate of Pec and the spiritual center of the Serbian people. On this icon he is shown in monastic vestments, holding an ornate Gospel, while the gold background and halo emphasize his holiness. The Greek inscription "Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΑΡΣΕΝΙΟΣ" means "Saint Arsenije".

The faithful pray to Saint Arsenije for wisdom, perseverance in faith and the blessing of the home, honoring him as a guardian of Serbian spiritual heritage and a faithful continuer of Saint Sava's work. The icon finds its place in the home's icon corner, on a family iconostasis or in a prayer nook. It makes a worthy gift for a patron-saint feast day (krsna slava), a baptism, a name day, or as a blessing for those who bear the name Arsenije. Saint Arsenije of Srem is celebrated on October 28 according to the church calendar, when the Serbian Church prays to him in a special way.
