St. Photios of Constantinople (820-893) - patriarch of Constantinople and one of the greatest theologians of Byzantium. Defender of the Orthodox faith at critical moments in Church history, author of significant works on spiritual life and the defense of Orthodox teaching against various heresies of his time.

His feast day is February 19. He is especially venerated as the patron of those engaged in scholarship, theology, the translation of holy books, and the broader pursuit of truth. St. Photios is the link between early Christianity and contemporary Orthodox thought.
