"More Spacious than the Heavens" - so the Church's hymnography calls the Most Holy Mother of God because she bore within herself the One whom the heavens cannot contain. This iconographic type is known in Greek as Platytera ton Ouranon, and in the Slavic tradition also as "Znamenie" (the Sign). The Mother of God stands frontally, in the posture of prayer (Orans), with hands raised and spread wide, while Christ Emmanuel shines as a medallion (mandorla) on her breast. The Greek inscription ΜΡ ΘΥ (Meter Theou - Mother of God) and Η ΠΛΑΤΥΤΕΡΑ ΤΩΝ ΟΥΡΑΝΩΝ clearly name the theme. The background is deep blue - giving the icon a dark, meditative mood. The rustic base with irregular edges and hand-finished details enhances the impression of great antiquity.
This icon is often a home icon - the protectress of the family hearth. The Theotokos Orans prays for every home that receives her, and Christ on her breast speaks that there is no greater refuge than her intercession.

Delivery
We ship all orders within Serbia only. Delivery takes 10-15 business days from order confirmation - this includes crafting, packaging and transport.
Icons are sent by courier, with proof of delivery. Packaging is twofold - an inner layer with protective foam and an outer cushioning layer for safe transport.
