Jesus Christ - The True Vine (rustic edge)

The icon depicts a rare and deeply symbolic scene - Jesus Christ as the True Vine, inspired by the words from the Gospel of John: "I am the vine, you are the branches." Christ is at the center, blessing with His right hand and holding an open Gospel with that very verse written in Greek, while branches with leaves and grape clusters grow out from Him as from the trunk of a grapevine. On the vines are medallions of the twelve apostles, each holding a book or a scroll - branches that remain in the vine and bear fruit. At the top stands the red inscription Η ΑΜΠΕΛΟΣ (The Vine), and beside the halo the monogram ΙΣ ΧΣ - Jesus Christ. The scene vividly portrays the unity of the Church: Christ as the source of life and the apostles as His branches.

Before this icon the faithful pray for unity in faith, for spiritual fruit and for perseverance in prayer - to remain "in the vine" and bear the fruit of good deeds.
