Saint Sabbas the Sanctified (5th-6th century) is one of the greatest fathers of Orthodox monasticism - founder of the famous lavra in the Judean desert near Jerusalem, which still bears his name. His monastic rule (the Jerusalem Typikon) still shapes the order of worship in the Orthodox Church. On this icon he is shown as an elder with a grey beard, in monastic robes, holding an unrolled scroll bearing words of ascetic counsel; beside the figure is the Greek inscription Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΣΑΒΒΑΣ, according to the iconographic canon. (This is Saint Sabbas the Sanctified of Jerusalem, not Saint Sava of Serbia, who is depicted as an archbishop.)
The icon is made in our workshop in Petrovcic, near Belgrade. The image is applied to a papyrus-look surface with curled, timeworn edges. On the back there is a jute cord for hanging and a certificate of authenticity by Orthodox Corner. Available in three sizes. A certificate accompanies every piece.
