One of the oldest Christian motifs - Christ depicted as the Shepherd who carries the lost sheep on his shoulders. An image from the parable of the lost sheep (Luke 15) - God who goes after the one who strays and does not give up until he finds them.
A motif that speaks of God's closeness, his care for each individual soul, and the joy that accompanies return. A warm, optimistic icon - it does not frighten, but invites. Particularly beloved in families with children.
