The Holy Apostle Matthias was one of the twelve apostles, chosen by lot to fill the place left behind by Judas Iscariot. Before that he was counted among the seventy disciples who followed the Lord throughout His preaching. After the descent of the Holy Spirit he tirelessly spread the Gospel and gave his life for the faith, dying a martyr's death. On this icon he is depicted with a halo around his head, dressed in apostolic robes, holding a scroll in his hands - a sign of the Gospel word he preached. Beside his figure stands an inscription with the saint's name.

Delivery
