A diptych is a two-panel icon joined by hinges, which folds like a book and is easily carried on a journey, placed on a desk, or set beside a pillow. On this diptych, the Lord Jesus Christ and the Most Holy Mother of God stand face to face - the two central figures of Orthodox faith.
Christ blesses and holds the Gospel, while the Mother of God holds the God-child in her arms and points toward Him. The union of the Son's blessing and the Mother's protection in one place makes this diptych a perfect prayer icon for the home, as well as a travel icon that folds and goes wherever you go.
