The Descent from the Cross is one of the most moving scenes in Orthodox iconography - the moment when the body of the Saviour is taken down from the Cross after the Crucifixion. In this icon, Joseph of Arimathea supports Christ's body while Nicodemus draws out the forged nails. The Most Holy Mother of God receives her Son and presses her face to His, while Saint John the Theologian and the myrrh-bearing women mourn beside the Cross. Above the scene stands the Greek inscription Η ΑΠΟΚΑΘΗΛΩΣΙΣ - the Descent from the Cross. The whole composition breathes with quiet, restrained sorrow and with a love that overcomes death.
The Church remembers this scene especially on Good Friday, the day of Christ's Passion and His placing in the tomb. Delivery
We ship all orders within Serbia only. Delivery takes 10-15 business days from order confirmation - this includes crafting, packaging and transport.
Icons are sent by courier, with proof of delivery. Packaging is twofold - an inner layer with protective foam and an outer cushioning layer for safe transport.
