The original after which this print was made is kept at the Monastery of Saint Catherine beneath Mount Sinai and dates from the sixth century - before the iconoclasts destroyed almost everything painted before them. The Sinai Pantocrator survived because the monastery lay too far away for the emperor's order to reach it. So today we look upon the face of Christ as a Christian of the sixth century saw it, without intermediary and without later repainting.
On this piece the image is set on a black ground over which gold patina has been drawn with a brush, so the light does not fall evenly but slides along the strokes. The effect is simple and deliberate: the dark board does not compete with the face, it sets it apart. The raised gold inscription ΙΣ ΧΣ and the ornament around the halo are done by hand, in a layer you can feel under your finger. An icon of this tone sits best on a plain wall, in a room where the light comes from the side.

Delivery
We ship all orders within Serbia only. Delivery takes 10-15 business days from order confirmation - this includes crafting, packaging and transport.
Icons are sent by courier, with proof of delivery. Packaging is twofold - an inner layer with protective foam and an outer cushioning layer for safe transport.
