Christ Enthroned

On this icon, Christ is depicted as the Almighty (Pantocrator), enthroned as King and gentle Judge. He blesses with His right hand while holding before Him the open Gospel with the words "Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Beside His figure stand the inscriptions ΙΣ ΧΣ, the abbreviation of the name Jesus Christ, and within the halo around His head the letters Ο ΩΝ, meaning "The One Who Is." The whole scene radiates peace and dignity - Christ does not threaten from the throne, but calls the faithful to rest and comfort.

This image is among the oldest and most recognizable depictions of the Saviour in Orthodoxy, well suited for a home icon corner, a prayer nook, or a workspace. Before it, the faithful bring every worry and request - for strength, forgiveness, and guidance along their path.
